Growing Closer - Lisa

Hope everyone had a happy Chinese New Year spending time to connect and revitalize!  To start off the year, we sat down with our newest new convert, Lisa, to get to know her better.

Michelle:

Please tell us a bit about yourself.

LIsa:

I like to crochet.

Michelle:

What do you crochet?

Lisa:

Stuff toys and plushies.

Michelle:

Is this a hobby that you do in your free time?

Lisa:

Yes!

Michelle:

I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to crochet. The best I can do is to sew a button… How do you even begin to crochet?

Lisa:

I look online for instructional videos. After I get the hang of what to do, I use my own creativity.

Michelle:

Wow! That requires some artistic talent to come up with your own design. When did you start crocheting?

Lisa:

2 years ago, my school had this thing where we had to explore our own hobbies. I picked up crocheting as a hobby since then and it has been 2 years.

Michelle:

What is your proudest creation?

Lisa:

That would be a sling bag I made for my mum’s birthday.

(Editor’s note: Next time you see sis Jenny carrying a sling bag, maybe that’s the one!)

Michelle:

Do you have other hobbies?

Lisa:

I like to play the guitar. I am at the beginner level. I took lessons for a few months but stopped after a while. I have been self-taught for the past 2 years by looking at Youtube videos of various English songs. Some of the genres include pop, indie-rock etc.

MIchelle:

Since you play the guitar, do you also sing?

Lisa:

Yes! I like to sing.

Michelle:

That’s really impressive! I can see that you are multi-talented in the artistic domain. Moving on to spiritual matters, how did you come to know about God and the church of Christ?

Lisa:

I came to know about God and the church of Christ through my parents when they took me to church when I was 7 years old, and started attending bible classes.

Michelle:

What made you decide to get baptized? What was that journey like for you?

Lisa:

I wanted to be baptized because after knowing about the bible and I learned that it was supported by many evidences, and the books were not contradictory to each other. The journey was a refreshing start for me as I feel a sense of purpose and hope in life

Michelle:

What's your fondest memory of growing up in the church thus far?

Lisa:

My fondest memory in the church was during the New Year's count down a few years ago where we had scavenger hunt games together

Michelle:

Nice!!! How has it been for you as a new convert? If there's anyone unsure about whether to get baptized or not and you could say one thing to them, what might that be?

Lisa:

Being a new convert gives me a great source of hope. I feel a greater sense of purpose in life because I know where i am going after this life, if I stay faithful to God. For those unsure, I would say follow the bible which tells us that faith alone is not enough to be saved. But by believing and being baptized, then can one be added to God's kingdom.

Michelle:

Well said! Thank you for the time to do this!
