Growing Closer - Chin Chin

Meet Chin Chin! She has been working in Singapore for more than a decade and she has been with us for a few years now. She is actually related to one of our brethren in the church. Read on to find out more!

Michelle:

Tell me more about yourself. What do you work as, and what do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Chin Chin:

I'm 33 years old. I have 8 siblings and I'm the eldest. I have two sons aged 12 and 6. I've been working here in Singapore for more than 10 years as a Domestic Helper. I love reading and I go to the gym sometimes after I'm done working.

Michelle:

Nice! I like reading too. What are you currently reading right now, and what would you say is your favourite book?

Chin Chin:

Jeffrey Archer's Paths of Glory. I don't have any favourite book but I prefer reading historical books.

Michelle:

What is one little known fact about you?

Chin Chin:

I've been baptized three times. My father is Catholic and my mother is part of the Alliance church, and they got married twice, once in the Catholic church, and once in the Alliance church. I was "baptized" as a baby in the Catholic church and in the Alliance church.

Editor’s note:

The only recognised baptism is water baptism (Acts 8:36-38). An additional point to note is that infants do not need to be baptised as they do not possess the understanding or belief required to be baptized (Mark 16:16).

Michelle:

How did you come to be baptised after you came to the church of Christ?

Chin Chin:

My cousin Stephanie invited me, and the late sister Poh Im and brother Peter Chin patiently taught me during Bible study. I decided to be baptized after more than a year of studying with them.

Michelle:

What made you decide to get baptized?

Chin Chin:

After studying and reflecting for a year.

Michelle:

Any particular points that made an impact/struck you and made you decide to get baptized?

Chin Chin:

At first I felt like I didn't deserve to be saved because of what I had done in the past, but Ernest convinced me otherwise.

Michelle:

If you're open to share, what would you say are the highlights and struggles of your Christian journey so far?

Chin Chin:

I've met Christians who help me in my journey as a Christian, and now I rarely spend time with my friends before, who have different priorities and beliefs than I do.

Michelle:

Indeed, surrounding yourself with like-minded friends can help immensely as we walk this Christian journey. Do you have any favourite Bible verse?

Chin Chin:

Hebrews 10:24 “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.”

Michelle:

Having been in the church for a few years now, do you have a favourite memory of the church?

Chin Chin:

No particular favourite memory. I enjoy meeting friends who have the same faith, like ate Ludina, Ellen among others.

Michelle:

Any last words/thoughts that you would like to leave our readers with?

Chin Chin:
