A. Praiseworthy areas.
The church at Ephesus had many things that they had done well.
a. Their works, labour, and patience (2:2-3).
b. Their hatred for false teachers (2:2,6).
The Lim Ah Pin church has many things that we have done well.
a. Our works, labour, and patience.
b. Our hatred for false teachers.
B. Pressing concerns.
The church at Ephesus had things that they could do better.
a. They had left their first love (2:4; Eph 1:15).
b. They had left their first works (2:5; 1Co 13:3).
The Lim Ah Pin church has things that we can do better.
a. Have we lost our first love (1Co 8:1; Luk 11:42)?
b. Have we lost our first works (Zec 7:5-6; Col 3:23)?
C. Personal responsibility.
The church at Ephesus had things that they needed to do.
a. Each of them had to hear the words of the Holy Spirit (2:7).
b. Each of them had to overcome to inherit eternal life (2:7).
The Lim Ah Pin church has things that we need to do.
a. Each of us has to hear the words of the Holy Spirit (Luk 11:45; Mar 4:23-25).
b. Each of us has to overcome to inherit eternal life (Luk 8:18; Php 2:12).
